The Spin Cycle: I'm Thankful You Even Tolerate Me

Next week I plan on listing a few things that our family is thankful for. Everyone was doing it this week and I just want to be a little different. But as luck would have it, the lovely, and hopefully very forgiving, Jen over at Sprite’s Keeper has selected “Thankful” as our Spin Cycle topic. It made me realize that I don’t thank the hostess enough for all the hard work and dedication she puts into the Spin Cycle. She’s never fails to visit every person that participates and diligently links them up to her site every week.

I credit Jen for introducing me to so many wonderful bloggers through her site, not only because of the Spin Cycle, but because she has the best bunch of commenters around. I visited spriteskeeper.com for several weeks before I even dared to attempt to comment. When I did, she quickly shot me back an email telling me that while she appreciated me visiting her, she felt that the internet already had too many Jens. I assume she was joking. I hope she was joking. It’s going to be pretty awkward when she clicks over here to see that I’m bearing my soul about her when, in reality, she’s been trying to shake me all along. Oh, honey, you should know by now that once the Steenky Bee attaches herself to a host, it’s virtually impossible to extricate her.

I must also tell you, here and now, that I have a favorite post of Jen’s. This post actually made me pull my car to the side of the road and just laugh out loud. Yeah, it was that good. (Please ignore that I was driving and surfing the web at the same time. I had a weak moment.) When you click over to read this post, you will see the irony of me in the car multitasking. (Not Alanis Morrisette irony that really isn’t ironic after all, but real, honest to goodness irony.)

I contacted Jen a little while ago and outright begged her to let me do a post in her honor. I held up two forms of ID to the phone receiver and explained several times who I was, before she eventually relented. Well, to say that she “relented” may be a bit of a stretch. I think her last words to me were, “Yeah, fine whatever. Just don’t call me collect anymore. Who is this again?”

Before we said our goodbyes (Jen’s being colorful enough to make even me blush) I told her that to show my thanks to her, I wanted to make her a custom Steenky Bee T-shirt just for her. She gave me two options for a design, her mailing address as well as her social security number. (Jen is awesome and all, but she’s even more gullible.)

Here’s my first attempt at Jen’s shirt. When I asked her what she wanted on it, I wrote down her first response. Don't you think it's a little too wordy?

Here’s Jen’s second suggestion. I like this one a little better.

Thanks again, Jen, for hosting the Spin Cycle. I promise I’ll always try to make you proud. And as we discussed earlier, at your request, I promise I’ll never “honor” you again on my site.

Blimey, with praise like that how can we not all troop over to her pad and trash the place, err I mean pay her a visit?

I'm there, and if it's not up to scratch I'm coming back and complaining . . .

DeeMarie said...

I love all the Jens I stalk. You and SK included. You make my days happier. I love the first shirt, but I think it would be hard for people to casually read as the pass her. People see me in my Stalker shirt and immediately know to cross over to the other side of the street.

Who doesn't love Sprite's Keeper? And I think we should totally make that last shirt our slogan for 2009!!! ;)

That's my body all right, but where did you get the head?
Seriously, I am blushing right now. I'll even let you in on a secret. When my Reader shows a Steenky Bee post up, I (whose OCD mandates that I read in chronological order of oldest to newest) skip all the others and head straight here. I don't remember much of the phone call, just John passing me the phone and saying "Collect call from Utah, who the hell do you know in Utah?" The rest is pretty fuzzy, but now things are starting to ring a bell and now I think I understand why I've opened up 4 more charge accounts for stores near the West Coast..You're linked and very much loved!

love the shirt suggestions! sprite's momma is pretty cool. even if i never remember to partake in the spin cycle... maybe tonight!

I wonder sometimes, why a lot of the bloggers I visit are named "Jen".

I think it's secretly YOU, parading around the internet, attempting to get as many comments as possible.

Fame whore.

Mama Dawg said...

How funny. I loved her first shirt better, though. More abstract. Like your hair.

Rhea said...

hehe Hilarious shirts.

Captain Dumbass said...

She definitely deserves a shirt. And I think we should look into some type of numerical reference for all the Jen's. When I'm talking to Supreme Leader about what "Jen" did today it gets confusing. Just an idea.

okay, now that I got that off my chest - yeah stop laughing- that was the only thing on there- I thought they said after you give birth your boobs are supposed to grow? Ugh! whatever, anyways, the Keeper is so many kinds of awesomesauce that it is indescribable. You too are totally awesomesauce!! They need to bottle you guys up: Jen-awesomesauce: a bit of snark, comedy, and maddness in every bottle!

I would so totally buy that!! Heck, I would market it, distribute it!! Coem on can I? Pretty Please with sugar on top?

TOP 20!!!!!!

Jen is making out like a bandit this week. Shirts, shrines, baby name dedications, presidential libraries...

Seriously, Jen rocks. And you also rock.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Jens are amazing. That's a sentence, right?

Unknown said...

Tolerate you? Well, of course. I mean, did you give her a choice? I don't recall having one. That's okay though, you're okay in my book. Well, actually my blog since I don't have a book.

Now I have to head over to this Jen's blog and check it out...

Thank goodness it was a t-shirt and not underpants.

Your always a step ahead (or behind in this case) from the blogging crowd and that's I love about you. Time for me to get to know Sprite's Keeper....

This post proves you are the most bad ass stalker out there. And by that I mean of all the crazy stalkers in the world...not just the bloggy ones.

You are awesome, so is Jen. Must be something about the name. I think I'll change mine so I can be awesome too. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I want a t-shirt. I waaaaant onnnnne!
Whining is totes sex-ay, dontcha think?

That wordy one brings with it the possibility of people getting uncomfortably close to read it all. I feel good about her decision not to go with that one. Always remember the rules of Dirty Dancing - personal space!

Anonymous said...

Just go with "Awesomesauce", or has that t-shirt already been taken?

Cape Cod Gal said...

She is awesome. I have yet to comment on her blog, but I read it everyday!

HarryJack's Mom said...

Tolerate, shmolerate - you rock you funny-dancing curly-haired wonder! TSM already asked to change her name - I want it, too, and the hair ;-) You girls are both awesomesauce personified. Hope that Thanksgiving is filled with all the blessings you can handle

I must say, Jen (SK Jen, not SB Jen, although SB Jen is too) is looking pretty good these days and I love her choice for shirts. I think she's a great reason to be thankful for. In fact, I'm stealing your thankfulness for a minute and declaring my thankfulness toward Jen, both SK and SB. Not SOB. I'm glad you honored her, I even saw a shrine in her honor over at Goodfather's site today. She's getting around, that Jen.

Jen is the best.

Of course the question is ... which Jen am I talking about?

Anonymous said...

LAST!!!!!, At the moment, that is... maybe I will keep commenting so I can always be last.
I am going ot just over to read the post and I am SOOOO thankful of Jen X 2 and all of the other cool blogging peeps.

You should open up a Steenky Bee etsy shop. You'd totally rake in the dough. You could call it Steenky Be-etsy.

Mc Allen said...

well, look what you've done ... now your out $300.00 because you have to make all 98 of us that think we are first and find out we are 31 and still reply on here a shirt. I hope your happy. I'm off now to check out Jen naturally, and She better be good!!! LA

I'm so lame about checking out new blogs because I can't keep up with the ones I already love, but I trust your judgment, Steenky, and I'm on my way. It better be worth it or you'll owe me a t-shirt ;)

Oh, yeah, and I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hey chica! Had to get my Steenky Bee fix while in Mexico. The Leester says hola. Just had a yummy dinner and I'm slightly tipsy. Ole! Love ya. I'll call you on Mon-dee.

Your posts just always make me doing something out loud - either laugh or cry.

I haven't been able to read any blogs lately and I have just stumbled through my days like something is missing.

Thanks for making me laugh.

Couldn't agree more about Sprite she's totally awesome! I like the first T-shirt..lol

Tiffany T said...

I have to agree with GreenJello on this one.

My favorite part of your whole post (which has quite a few juicy nuggets in it) is the slamming of Alanis Morrisette's IRONY song. It is NOT ironic - just a big fat bummer!!

DeeMarie said...

Just stopping to stalk. MWAH!!! Loves.

I miss so much when I can't get on the internet for days. Seriously, I need to up my game, what do I have to do to get a t-shirt at Steenky Bee. I suppose being mildly amusing would help?? Nope, settling for commenting.

I'm new here! What a great blog :) ♥ Hugs!

You are a total ass kisser.

That's all I'm saying. That and you are awesome. If my kid hadn't been sick all week I would have already read this. I'll do better next time, hopefully commenting before 50,000 others have already.

jen said...

even though people were totally not talking about me...after reading all the comments:
i feel better just being named jen.
and i think you need to create a shirt that says "FIRST!!!!!!!!!!"
cause then when we run into each other or see each other in passing at the mall...we'll totally have an inside joke thing.

King of New York Hacks said...

Yeah I like the comment you are badass. YOU ARE BADASS !!!

I like the first one for the exact reason Fadkog advises against it. I like the idea of a t-shirt that people have to spend lots of time trying to figure out, and yet, still walk off confused.

I really need a tee-shirt. Really. Or a dildo. But it would be much less embarrassing for you to go have a tee shirt made than having something engraved on a dildo (can you engrave a dildo? That would be awesome...)

Anyway, you guys both rock the casbah and I am so glad I found you!!

Now get on that tee-shirt/dildo thing!

I just want to let you know that I check your page often because I enjoy your writing - you're very funny.
