I've Adopted Another

I'm not here today, I'm somewhere else. I'm guest posting somewhere, but I'm not going to tell you where just yet. I need to tell you a few things first before I send you off.

Today marks the final day of Adoption Week at Steenky Bee. I promise, I only have one more story left, and it's about a fellow blogger that I have adopted as my big brother.

I've never had a brother, but if I were to have one, I would want this guy to be it. He goes by the name Captain Dumbass and he is was my very first bloggy friend, like ever. Besides my best gal (real-life BFF, JuleeSLC), Captain Dumbass was the first person to comment at Steenky Bee. And it wasn't like I had just been blogging a few weeks or anything, it had been almost 18 months. That's a long time with out any comment love, people.

I give the Captain all the credit for a pivotal change at Steenky Bee. I learned that there are nice bloggers out there. There are people that are kind and will offer up a link to your site just because.

So right about now, the Captain is wondering if he is being punked or something. I'm seriously never this nice to him. I'm not saying we haven't had our rough patches. There was that one Sunday a few weeks ago when I accidentally unfollowed him on Twitter. Those three hours are some of the darkest times I have ever experienced. I missed his tweet about the salmon burger he had for dinner. I KNOW!

Anyway, I have adopted the Captain and his family as one of my own. I look up to him like a brother. He has the coolest stories, the kindest words, two adorable boys and a wife who is the best sport, like ever.

So Captain, thank you and I'm sorry. Thank you for being my friend. Sorry for posting this picture of you on my site.

Go on over to Us and Them to see what happened when I finally met the Captain and his family face to face for the very first time.

First!!!!! Can I be your adopted sister? I already pretend I am, but maybe you could think so too?! When should I plan to stop over and meet the Steenky Family?

Now you're leaving yourself open to some big time stalkers, admitting you're up for meeting in REAL LIFE. Well, I'm one of those stalkers. In fact, I'm sitting in my car at the end of your driveway as I type this. A lot of your neighbors offer free wifi, thanks! I'm glad you finally got a brother, I hope he doesn't pick on you and pull your hair or anything. Can I come inside now? I want to show the kids this new dance move I've been working on.

Ha! Third!!! And if the kids would have slept last night, I could have been first...

Wow, a first comment after 18 months. Kind of makes us all seem lame when we delight in being FIRST every.damn.day on every.damn.blog. we read.
I was somebody's first once. I was 17 and he was.....um...sorry. Never mind.

Good morning Donna Di Strada!

Awww...what's wrong with that picture? Every grown, dumbass man should have a picture like that. Real men ride tricycles and don't care if it's posted on the net!

Will go visit your "brother". Any brother of yours is...alright by me??

Are you serious? Blog hopping on a Sunday morning and I can't even crack the top five? Google Reader is on notice!
Loved your GP, Jen!

Are you allowed to adopt more than one Canadian family?

With such a cool bike no wonder you want to be related!

PS Aren't you due to hang out in England, smoke cigarettes and use a cool British accent?

When I said you could use 'any' picture...

I'm 9th... do I get some kind of a prize?
Will you adopt me, too? I'm not sure how I would do on a tricycle, but I can skateboard and ride down the stairs on a big couch cushion... let me know if you're interested.

Sherendipity said...

lol. I'll adopt you for the couch cushion talent alone!!

I've been seeing his name on the Internets a lot--I can't wait to check out his blog!

That's very sweet. I think I went like eight months or so on my blog before I got a comment and then when I did it was a spam comment. So disappointing!
And I think he looks great on that tiny little bike!

love that picture. hope he is wearing some serious crotch protection, or is done having children. just saying.

The timing on this is just crazy. Just last night i sent you an email about a convo Captain and I had about you seeming like a younger sister. He said you were his all his. I know it's his tricked out trycycle that won your heart. Dammit. :)

I just happened to come across your blog through another one and wanted to tell you that I thought it was great. I went back and read some of the posts and really enjoyed them all.

I like older music including Stevie Nicks so I had to check out your husband's picture hahaha

You've met the captain in real life? Did you rub his head? Did you see his tattoo? Wow.

He was seriously my first regular commenter too. He's like an internet Johnny Appleseed, spreading funny comments and good cheer instead of apples. He's a legend in his own time.

Side note: My husband sat on Caroline's bike like that one time and the seat snapped clean off. She cried for 4 days.

Heading over to read that post now.

Kiss kiss.

Dude, I left the funny comment over there! And you can be my little sister, I've kinda got a dearth of those, except for the adopted ones and, of course, all the aunting I do.

He looks like an awesomely fun guy. I'm heading over to check out his site. Also, since Papa is looking for a younger sister, I'm volunteering. Nevermind that I believe I'm older than him. I need a brother. Especially one with a cute baby girl I could spoil. Pass the word, kthanx?

Ha ha! Great picture! I'm on my way over to the Captain's site to read your post.

I will be there next week. Got the GPS dialed and it says it is a 4 day drive, that is..... stoping on the way to see deemarie and heatherpride :)
Did I dream that???
18 months, not sure I would have made it that long.

I love Capt. Dumbass, too, but it's a new and untested love. I haven't even met him yet. You'd totally be my BFF blogfriend. You and Mrs. G from Derfwad Manor. I'd settle for drinking buddies.

18 months without a comment? Wowee. That's a long time... I love your blog, your photos... hope you get a ton of comments daily to make up for the long lonely period in your blogging life.

Why does everyone want to be first?

Aw -- I only recently "met" Captain Dumbass, and it's all because of you!

You're right. He's awesome.

You feelin' the luv, Dumbass??

1st to one of your responses about Curling!
Yes, many of us strange
masochistic Cdns feel the urge to go out in the bitter, freezing cold to throw 40 lb rocks then sweep the floor, over and over and over again. I think there is a point to it but not sure what.!

I enjoyed your blog re dieting and fitness. I take my old bones to fitness classes regularly,
so I am able to satisfy my
craving for jellybeans. I
buy them in the conveniet
bulk packaging.

Lastly, Captain Dumbass on the tricycle. I'm so proud
that he's still trying but have been encouraging him to try a 2 wheeler for years.

I'm supposed to be working on a blog, but instead I'm just trolling your site. Actually, I'm trolling your site because I'm working on a blog, but you'll figure that out later.

I just wanted to thank you for guesting for me again. And thank you for this awesome... um... guesting linky thing. I'm glad we met when we did and I am so happy for you and how popular your site has become. Thank you for all your nice words.

Now if we were in the same room I'd totally give you a noogy since we're all like family now.
